When it comes to looking after your health, most people ignore ear health. In fact, according to certain studies, about one in eight people in the United States aged 12 years or older have hearing loss in both ears. The data also suggests that around 28.8 million U.S. adults could benefit from hearing aids.

In this blog, we will explain the need to invest in hearing protection solutions to pave the way for healthy ears. Keep reading to learn more!

What are Hearing Protection Solutions?

First things first, let’s understand what hearing protection solutions are. Put quite simply, hearing protectors are wearable devices (think: earplugs and earmuffs, for instance) that prevent loud noises from entering your ears.

Why are Hearing Protection Solutions Important?

There are numerous reasons why hearing solutions come in handy:

  1. Prevent More Serious Conditions

First, loud sounds can damage your inner and, more sensitive, ear structure. The louder the sounds, the more they can damage your ears. They can eventually lead to more severe issues such as noise-induced hearing loss (NIHL), which affects nearly 17% of teens and close to 10 million adults under the age of 70 in the United States.

Loud noises can also cause tinnitus. Hearing protection solutions can help protect your ears from damaging loud noises.

  1. Effective Ear Protection in Noisy Environments

Not many people know that often hearing loss happens instantly. For instance, the sound of a gunshot at extremely close range can cause instant and permanent damage. In other scenarios, hearing loss can occur within 15 minutes of exposure to loud noises. This is why, if you are constantly exposed to loud noises, wearing hearing protection solutions is crucial to protecting your ears.

When to Wear a Hearing Protector?

Wearing a hearing protector is essentially a proactive measure you can undertake to protect your ears from deafening and damaging noises. Ideally, try to safeguard your ears by wearing the right kind of ear protector in the following scenarios:

  • If you go to attend a sporting event, firework display, or concert
  • If you ride on a motorcycle, snowmobile, or going dirt bike riding
  • If you attend a band/orchestra performance
  • If you work in an industrial warehouse and are repeatedly exposed to loud noises
  • If you go for any kind of shooting sport

Note that there are various kinds of earplugs and earmuffs that you can try–from foam earplugs and pre-molded earplugs to canal caps and safety earmuffs. There are plenty of options for you to choose from, so don’t feel discouraged when they don’t work out right away.

Sounds at or below 70 A-weighted decibels (dBA) are typically considered safe. On the other hand, the sound range caused due to listening to music directly through your headphones at maximum volume lies between 94 to 110 dBA. We recommend staying within the safety limit to ensure long-term ear health.
